It can be tricky these days to find authentic, unique, artist-created works in department stores. Either it’s been mass-produced into oblivion and very obviously not special, or it's boring and void of a greater message. While everyone’s taste in art is different, it’s great to have local options for obtaining high-quality art. From Friday, Aug. 26 to Sunday, Oct. 2, Nordstrom has partnered with popular online contemporary art purveyor, Tappan Collective to bring guests amazing art curations with a local focus.

The exclusive collaboration has launched in select Nordstrom stores throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as online. Stores in Chicago, New York, San Jose, South Coast Plaza, Austin, and Toronto, along with two locations in the store’s home state of Washington, Seattle and Bellevue, are carrying the curated collections.
“Almost like a love letter to each city, the collections were curated specifically for each location, an encapsulation of place, through color, subject, and memory,” says the founder of Tappan Collective, Chelsea Neman Nassib.

“The curation highlights a wide range of artists, from portraiture to sculpture to neons. We really wanted to show a wide breadth of work for the Nordstrom audience to not only highlight the diversity that Tappan offers but also to celebrate the bold choices of Nordstrom and their clientele,” says Nassib.

Up-and-coming artists like Luke Chiswell, James Needham, and Marleigh Culver are regulars on the Tappan Collective website and have impressive social media followings of their own. This collaboration is particularly noteworthy because of its bridge between artists, their personal creative social media followings, and the masses of Nordstrom and its art-loving shoppers.
