All manner of garlic-themed fare, from the sweet to savory, can be enjoyed at the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival.
1. Los Altos Art & Wine Festival
Artists and craftspeople, along with local wineries and purveyors of myriad cuisines, are expected to draw strong crowds downtown. Free concerts, rides and kids’ activities add to the revelry.

2. Pal Blues, Music, Arts & BBQ Festival
The Courthouse Square in Redwood City transforms into an extravaganza of food and fun. The live music will spotlight women in the blues, including musicians from the Peninsula.

3. Gilroy Garlic Festival
Pack some mints and prepare to sample a host of garlicky items. Cooking demos and competitions are among the popular activities (Food Network’s Giada de Laurentiis will be on hand for a cook-off). Performers on three stages, children’s activities, and arts and crafts vendors are also on the docket.

4. California Beer Festival
Catch the festivities at Aptos Village Park. Friday night, local chefs and breweries pair up for a tasting event; craft beers are spotlighted on Saturday; and live entertainment makes for family fun on Sunday.

5. Italian Family Festa
Head to San Jose’s History Park for this celebration that includes delicious fare, wine tastings, live music, arts and crafts, cultural activities and more. Don’t miss the grape stomp, and be sure to try your hand at bocce.
