The sixth annual Sapphire Soirée, a gala benefit for the Cancer Center at El Camino Hospital, was held on May 21, 2016 at the Menlo Circus Club in Atherton. Michele Kirsch, and Nahid Aliniazee are co-chairs of El Camino Hospital Foundation’s signature event. The black tie affair, which was attended by 500 community members, physicians, and hospital supporters, had featured dinner, a live auction, fund-in-need appeal, and celebrity musical entertainment. The event has raised more than $2.5 million for the Cancer Center since 2011. This year's Sapphire Soirée auction prize, donated by Darren McClung, is a gorgeous Color Change Sapphire and Diamond "Celebration" ring by iconic designer, Robert Procop. The jewel is set with a 3.13 carat, unheated, oval, color change blue to violet sapphire. The ring is further embellished with oval blue and violet sapphires and crisp white diamonds. This creation is accompanied by a gem lab report and a book of provenance.
