Everybody’s favorite department store is taking accountability by making positive changes to be more inclusive.
Although this is just the start, we applaud Nordstrom for its ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Nordstrom’s efforts are broad and vast: they are supporting Black fashion designers, expanding their extended size offerings, and spotlighting Latinx beauty brands.
The terms diversity and inclusion do not operate on a single plane; they are constantly in flux and can be applied to a wide range of categories, ranging from color, to gender, to size, etc.
Below are three initiatives Nordstrom has implemented to support marginalized groups and amplify voices that aren’t often heard in the mainstream fashion industry.
While more diverse representation is great, internal change needs to be made in every company in order to fully achieve a goal of equality.
Nordstrom is proud to launch a partnership with Black Owned Everything, a marketplace promoting the work of Black-owned businesses in fashion and beauty, and its founder and celebrity stylist Zerina Akers.
Nordstrom has collaborated with Akers to curate and style a collection of four Black-owned brands with the season’s freshest Nike and Jordan drops as part of the Nordstrom x Nike space. Customers are invited to explore and shop clothing, accessories, jewelry, and handbags as they come in throughout the season from a diverse community of creators, including William Okpo, Brandon Blackwood, Sammy B, and L’Enchanteur.

This fall, Nordstrom is expanding its extended size offering through the launch of five exciting new brands including 11 Honoré, Ganni, Vince Plus, Vera Moda Curve, and Chelsea 28. 11 Honoré, exclusively available at Nordstrom, debuted in select stores and online on October 6th with a second drop of new styles towards the end of October.
The collection will include elevated basics and wardrobe essentials, from wrap dresses to belted blazers, cut-out turtlenecks to wide-leg trousers, these pieces will be the closet heroes for everyday wear and special occasions this fall.
The five new brands will join a list of key brands that currently offer extended sizing including Naked Wardrobe, Madewell, Treasure & Bond, Halogen, Open Edit, Eileen Fisher, SKIMS, Good American, Kin by Kristine, Zelie for She, Eloquii, Kiyonna, Vince Camuto, River Island and more with most brands offering up to a size 3X, and select brands extending to size 4X. Extended sizing is currently available in 45 Nordstrom stores and online at Nordstrom.com
With a goal of supporting brands that serve the needs of all customers, Nordstrom has announced the latest additions to its Inclusive Beauty assortment this month by introducing four new Latinx-founded brands.
In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month, Costa Brazil, Joaquina Botanica, Nopalera, and Vamigas are now available on Nordstrom.com and in stores through a multi-branded experience, along with existing Latinx brands which include BeautyBlender, Bomba Curls, Spice Beauty, and Tata Harper.
Nordstrom's Inclusive Beauty initiative features a curated assortment of products created for everyone – no matter the skin or hair type, tone, complexion, or texture.
