When winter lends its bite, it’s time for mountain escapes or coccoonlike retreats, depending on your mood. As for that romantic holiday in February? These ideas will cover all the bases.
Valentines will swoon over lemon verbena chocolates, burnt caramel truffles and Key lime apples, part of the 5-pound Passion Tower ($345) by Recchiuti Confections (recchiuti.com). Pssst, singles: It also makes a nice gift from you to you.
Cabaret comedian Catherine Cohen, a regular at Alan Cumming’s Club Cumming in New York’s East Village, comes west to Bing Concert Hall for shows at 7 and 9pm on Feb. 13 (tickets $35, live.stanford.edu). Her self-deprecating songs about dating and dieting should delight on date night (or a girls’ night out).
Auberge du Soleil (aubergeresorts.com) upped the indulgence with a new L’Essential custom facial with Bay Area brand Marie Veronique products (60 minutes for $235). Continue the pampering by sliding into one of the resort’s newly remodeled Private Maisons (1,800 square feet each) with vineyard views (from $1,275 per night). Then say, “Ahhhh.”
Tahoe’s taking a back seat to Utah’s Summit Powder Mountain, (powdermountain.com), where four tech entrepreneurs have taken over North America’s largest ski development on 8,464 acres. The first 144 custom homesites sold out (to residents like Netflix CEO Reed Hastings). Now, 57 lots are available on the mountain’s Overlook, elevation 9,000 feet. A nearby village and 30 miles of hiking and biking trails make it a year-round getaway. But with prices starting at $550,000, you’ll want to get them while they’re hot.
