Whether you’re on the market for a new house or looking to renovate, knowing what trends are on the rise is essential. One room in the house that allows you to have a lot of fun designing is the kitchen, from countertops, cabinetry, lighting and more, there are so many ways to make a kitchen yours.
FIXR, a leading resource home industry has officially released their 2022 Kitchen Trends Report, in conjunction with 64 top interior designers from around the nation. The report breaks down some of the hottest trends going forward.
The report revealed that natural elements, such as wood, are set to have a major comeback in interior design this year. Not only in kitchens but natural elements will be seen throughout new homes and renovations. This goes hand and hand with the colors of the year for 2022, which are shades of green and brown, both commonly found in nature.

Mixing materials is set to be a big element of design going forward. There is no doubt that adding a variety of materials and colors helps add the greatest depth to the space. An example of mixing materials in a cohesive way is through stone countertops and a wood floor, a wooden countertop on the island with stone countertops on the perimeter, or by mixing different finishes for appliances and hardware.
Lighting is an essential part of interior design that is sometimes overlooked. Statement lighting helps bring another layer of design into the room, while also serving a purpose. Popular statement lights include pendants or chandeliers above an island and peninsula or table accent lights that help draw attention to the backsplash or countertop.
Experts are predicting that kitchens will start to see a shift in vintage and modern designs. With modern designs at the forefront of the industry, it will be important to begin adding layers of vintage and antique design to help ease the comfort of the space and add more depth. An easy way to achieve a mix of both designs are through stainless steel appliances and traditional kitchen cabinets, or to use modern cabinets with a vintage sink and patterned floor.
A hood can completely transform the design of a kitchen and statement metal hoods are about to have their year. Statement hoods can be made from a variety of different metals and finishes to help complete the design of the kitchen.
