Do you feel like putting on heels? Or do you feel like being honest with yourself and wearing some Uggs while you change the world one comfortable day at a time?
The California-based footwear company has really come up in the world. We used to mock them, but Uggs have become a staple of any cool influencer’s shoe closet. The whole perception around Uggs have changed, and now Uggs wants to pay that kindness forward with a it’s “Feel” campaign, which pairs cultural icons with classic Ugg looks that look and—we’ll say it—feel necessary now more than ever.
The campaign kicked off with NYC nightlife and inclusivity hero Susanne Bartsch. Today, Ugg takes the story further, teaming with NBA star and social activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
“In our ‘Feel’ platform, we honor important people and their stories,” Ugg President and Koolaburra Andrea O’Donnell is quoted in a press release. “Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is important not just because he is one of the most talented basketball players of our time, but also because he used this platform to advocate for civil rights and the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion before those words were in anyone’s vernacular. We are so privileged to be able to feature him.”
Abdul-Jabbar is highly-decorated, with six NBA MVP distinctions, 19 turns with the NBA All Stars, six NBA championships and more. He’s also written 17 books, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and took home two NAACP Image Awards. In this campaign, he accepts the title of “icon,” but encourages us all to be icons with our everyday actions.
“I hope I can be an icon as a leader; as a parent; as someone who cares about what happens in America,” Abdul-Jabbar is quoted. “Make a friend that doesn’t look like you. If we do that, we can change the world and make it a peaceful place.”
The gentle-hearted star is featured in campaign images tending to his garden and relaxing among the books of his library, wearing Ugg’s Neumel chukkas and Tasman slippers, which retail for $130 and $100 respectively. The images were shot by Los Angeles-based photographer Neil Favila and directed by Kauai Moliterno and Michael Barth.
“It was an honor to work with Ugg on their ‘Feel’ campaign—for me, wearing UGG is a state of mind, like walking barefoot on the beach.”
Now Ugg’s aren’t just comfortable, they’re inspiring and supportive. Learn more about the ‘Feel’ campaign via Ugg.com.
