Indulge in the London Fog cake in 6-, 8-, and 10-inch sizes, $40 to $80 each.
The fog’s rolling in, but it’s not the Bay Area’s usual haze. The London Fog dessert at Alexander’s Patisserie is clouding the better judgment of even the sugar-free among us. We say, let them eat cake! This 46% dark milk chocolate mousse— infused with Five Mountains’ Bergamot Earl Grey tea with candied kumquat confit inside—is glazed a bright blue and crowns a salted, dark chocolate sable. “My inspiration came from my favorite tea, Earl Grey,” says executive pastry chef Phuong Quach Fung. The citrus notes pay homage to the fruit, and the hues evoke the break of white foam of the crystal blue ocean in Thailand, “where kumquats are in abundance,” Fung says. At Alexander’s locations in Mountain View (209 Castro St.) and Cupertino (19379 Stevens Creek Blvd.), other decadent confections—the menu’s matcha roulade and lilikoi—are icing on the cake.
