A Galloping Food Destination at Bay Meadows

Where racehorses once galloped for prize money, visitors will be gallivanting at full speed for craft beers, gourmet burgers, artisan ice cream and cult coffee. Bay Meadows, the 83-acre urban development built on a former San Mateo racetrack, is establishing itself as a delicious destination.

Berkeley’s Fieldwork Brewing Co. is already open. Take a load off at its 4,500-square-foot outdoor beer garden, complete with fire pits, bocce ball courts, 30 tap lines, a rotating selection of 12 specialty beers and fun noshes.

Three more eateries are slated to bow this fall. Roam Artisan Burgers ups the burger game with its grass-fed beef, free-range turkey and organic veggie patties, along with housemade caramelized pineapple soda and decadent Straus Family Creamery ice cream shakes sporting a bruleed marshmallow head. Tin Pot Creamery adds its fourth Silicon Valley location, scooping up irresistible Sweet Cream with Honey Balsamic Swirl; Birthday Cake swirled with rainbow sprinkles; and Rich Chocolate with Dark TCHO Chocolate Shards. For the ultimate pick-me-up, head over to Blue Bottle Coffee for single-origin espressos, pour-overs and New Orleans-style chicory cold brew.
