When 12 parking spaces at the Market & San Pedro Square Garage in downtown San Jose, as well as five on-street parking spaces on San Pedro, get eliminated, you’d think it might spark a riot of honking. Instead, visitors are rejoicing over the space, called Moment, that’s been transformed into four microshops and a parklet.
The project, a 2015 winner of the Knight Cities Challenge that encourages the creation of more vibrant places in communities, features a rotating group of retailers. The first four, on-site through August, are all women-owned: Bobo Design Studio, a made-in-California lifestyle brand; Fractal Flora, a flower shop; Blooms PrivĂ©, a maker of inventive women’s underwear; and Sea Senorita Studios, a local artist whose work adorns a range of products. 60 N. Market St., San Jose
