British Bankers Club

When the BBC reopened a couple of years ago—following a four-year hiatus that included a change of ownership and an overhaul by CCS Architecture—it boasted an all-season rooftop bar. Now, guests can watch a game from an elevated perch with a drink in hand while noshing on oysters, small plates or a burger piled with balsamic-glazed onions, white cheddar and bacon. The rooftop opens at 4pm daily, with happy hour 4 to 6pm weekdays. 1090 El Camino Real, Menlo Park

A sexy bar in the suburbs? And that’s not all Barrelhouse has going for it. Check out superb cocktails and service; weekday happy hour; $2 tequila and Tecate on Tuesday; half-off select bottles of wine Sunday through Wednesday; plus live music on Thursday. Order a barrel-aged cocktail, such as a mezcal Negroni made with an agave-based spirit that imparts a smoky quality. Empanadas and charcuterie make up the menu, and imbibers are welcome to bring in their own grub. 305 California Drive, Burlingame

The Lexington House
There are classic bars, and then there are bars with class. The Lex is in the latter camp. Relax in a comfy backed stool with a crafty cocktail like the Bitter New Yorker, concocted by mixologist Stephen Shelton from single-barrel Buffalo Trace Bourbon, amaro, Hidalgo Fino Sherry and cocoa bitters. The establishment’s social hour—Monday to Thursday, 3:30 to 5pm—features iconic cocktails and bar bites. Go for the duck liver mousse and house-seasoned fries. 40 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Ste. A, Los Gatos

Rinconada Bar
A bastion of gleaming white, well-lit marble with welcoming wicker chairs, barrel-aged cocktails and tap beer creates a spacious sanctuary inside The Catamount restaurant. Social hour—Tuesday to Saturday, 4 to 6pm—features tasty snacks like stuffed mushrooms with kale and goat cheese; spicy chicken wings; and truffle cheese toast on housemade challah with asparagus and Gruyere. The Catamount Margarita, with blood orange, lime and agave, will set you free. 50 University Ave, Los Gatos
