Bay Area artist Erin Hupp launches a line of lamps that matches the power of her bespoke Bay A restaurant pieces.

Oakland-based Erin Hupp (erinhuppceramics.com), known for the hand-thrown genius of her pottery, now brings craftsmanship to the art of lighting. Launching in November, her pieces—each measuring 8 to 10 inches tall and 5 to 6 inches wide—come with a porcelain Tala light and a choice of electric cord colorways.
Hupp’s entry into the home marketplace is a natural progression from the fine-dining plates and caviar servers she created for celebrated San Francisco chefs at spots like Hilda and Jesse (hildaandjessesf.com), Californios (californiossf.com), Nightbird (nightbirdrestaurant.com) and Sons & Daughters (sonsanddaughterssf.com).

“Lighting is an experience—just like fine dining or enjoying caviar,” says Hupp, noting that each room dictates her custom designs. “One of the lamps has a V-cut in the back that mirrors the V-cut of broth pourers I created with chef Val Cantu of Californios. The V-cut allows light to shine up on the wall.” Her inventive flair recently included showcasing her pottery skills in the Californios courtyard; she threw clay, in the parlance of the craft, for five hours straight. Which definitely sheds light on Hupp’s dedication. Now, we get to enjoy her brilliance in our homes.
