Italians certainly know how to have a good time, and “Ferragosto” is just one more bit of proof.
Every year on August 15, the country celebrates the public holiday, which encourages citizens to leave the city and enjoy a day at the beach.
James Beard Award-winning trattoria Delfina can’t give you the day off, but it does invite you to celebrate the spirit of Ferragosto with a five-course feast and beautiful wine pairing Tuesday, August 22.
The menu, developed by Delfina chef de cuisine John Arcudi, highlights the taste of summertime using fresh Bay Area ingredients.
Start your meal with an appetizer of prosciutto and Fryer Creek melon, then enjoy charred octopus, insalata caprese and local Albacore tuna conserva. The third course brings smoked Fryer Creek eggplant agnolotti, the fourth your choice of Umpqua Valley lamb or local white sea bass, and to finish, a dessert of rum baba Napolitana and Sicilian almond granita.
Additional add-ons of lamb alla Brace or white sea bass are available.
Delfina’s wine director James Butler curated the wine selection, which comes from Oliver McCrumm Imports.
Delfina is no stranger to accolades. With more than 20 years of pioneering Cal-Italian cuisine under their belt, owners Craig and Annie Stoll have solidified their reputation as true champions of Italian flavors combined with Bay Area ingredients. Their efforts have been recognized with a James Beard Award, and the concept continues to impress with a Delfina Pizzeria expansion, which now has four locations across the Bay Area.
The five-course Ferragosto feast is $180 per person and is set to be served at a large communal table in Delfina’s recently renovated Arch Room. There will be two seatings at 5:15 and 8:45 p.m. Booking is now available at Open Table.
