On Sunday, August 26th, the CASA Auxiliary (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) hosted their 11th annual Garden Party in a lovely Hillsborough back yard. CASA of San Mateo County partners caring adults with children who come under the court's protection because their parents are unable to care for them. The Garden Party is the major fundraising event of the year for this organization.
Patricia Miljanich, Executive Director of CASA for the past twenty years, was honored as she retired and Nkia Richardson, current CASA Board President, was welcomed into her new role as Executive Director.
Guests at this event heard a compelling story from Alexis Orajel, youth speaker and former CASA child, about how his CASA volunteer made a difference in his life. Each year, CASA serves about 300 children and youth from babies to teenagers. More than 280 trained CASA volunteers spent 20,861 hours with or behalf of their children.
