Love spending time in Tahoe, but loathe the traffic going there? Blackbird Air gets it. Founder and avid skier Rudd Davis understands the frustration firsthand. His service shuttles passengers between Palo Alto and Tahoe, Monterey and Santa Barbara. With Blackbird, you can fly three ways: scheduled flights; pool, which involves telling Blackbird when you want to fly and the company seeks other guests interested in the same itinerary; and select, a completely private flight, with a choice of a handful of aircrafts (from a four-seat Cirrus SR22 to a 30-seat Embraer ERJ-135). “We have thousands of customers, and more than 50 percent of them will fly with us multiple times in the same month,” says Rudd. “People love the simplicity, affordability and, most of all, the convenience.” He anticipates launching at least a couple of new routes each month, with plans to be national by the end of the year.
One-way fares to Tahoe from $175 per person.
