Modern Metal (exist) - 0

Anh-Minh Le | June 4, 2018 | Story Now In

As she was putting the finishing touches on her space in last year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase, Menlo Park-based interior designer Krista Hoffman was in need of some knobs and pulls to add to a bar cabinet. “I knew what I wanted to do, but had a really hard time sourcing hardware,” she recalls. “I searched everywhere for the perfect hardware, low to high price points, and couldn’t find anything special or unique.” Ultimately, she collaborated with a metalworker to execute her vision: rectangular pieces with curved fronts, all made of perforated unlacquered brass that could be plated with copper, bronze, nickel and other metals. While she was thrilled with the results, she had no idea how it would resonate with her fellow design professionals. The interest was so great that, last fall, she officially launched her Hoffman Hardware collection ($150 to $210 each), featuring the design she had created for the Showcase in two standard sizes. Her second line—similar to the inaugural range, but with 90-degree edges and available as a square or rectangle—debuted earlier this year. Hammered metal and riveted designs are currently in development. “I have so many ideas in my head,” says Hoffman, who spends every Monday working with her fabricator. While most of her hardware clients are interior designers, she also sells directly to homeowners through her website.
