Food & Drink Story Eat and Drink

Peninsula denizens can now get their lavender latte fix, minus the drive to the mountains. Coffeebar, which launched its first outpost in Truckee in 2010 and has since opened in Reno and Squaw Valley, recently arrived in downtown Menlo Park. According to founder Greg Buchheister, a coffee-industry veteran who is also a former champion ski racer, his “business partner attended Stanford and spent the better part of his career working in Menlo Park.” Hence the latest locale, open from 7am to 3pm daily. Along with the usual suspects— coffee, tea, pastries—the menu features toothsome breakfast burritos, avocado toast (which can be topped with an organic poached egg, Niman Ranch bacon or local pea shoots), sandwiches and wraps. The interior design— which includes booths with copper-topped tables, live-edge communal tables and more—is the work of Nicole Hollis. The walls serve as a rotating gallery and are currently lined with art by Rachel Znerold, composed of repurposed bicycle parts. 1149 Chestnut St., 650.666.2626
