South Bay, get ready for meat and potatoes—the Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar way.

The upscale steakhouse chain, which already had a location in Palo Alto, recently opened in Santa Clara Square to serve up USDA prime and certified Angus beef aged 21 days, along with loaded baked potatoes; golden shoestring fries; an off-menu Yukon Gold mash with lobster; and its signature potato gratin with cream, jalapenos and cheddar.

Lighter appetites can enjoy New Zealand salmon burnished with a barbecue glaze; or shrimp and scallops atop goat cheese grits.

The handsome restaurant features floating shelves of wine bottles, as well as a glass wine room with more than 1,400 bottles. This is the place to try a new wine you’re curious about, since 100 are offered by the half or full glass, many of which are normally available elsewhere only by the bottle.

A nightly happy hour, 5 to 7pm, offers sips and noshes from $6. You may need some wine too after trying to find parking in this crowded strip-mall lot. Or valet park for $7, then text when you’re ready to leave to have your car waiting.
